Terms of Use & Privacy Policy
Written in plain English. All the same protections, none of the legalese. Last updated May 1, 2025.
Who We Are
summitcoach.org is Alan Arnette’s website for his professional climbing coaching business, Summit Coach. Alan solely owns this website and all content on it.
The purpose of this site is to connect with people who want to hire Alan through Summit Coach for personalized consultation on mountain climbing.
Terms of Use
By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you’re just reading this page for the first time, these terms don’t apply yet — but they do apply as soon as you use anything else on the site. Your right to use the site is personal to you and cannot be transferred to anyone else.
What we provide — and what we don’t guarantee
The information on this site is provided as-is. We do our best to keep it accurate, but we make no guarantees that everything is complete, current, or error-free. In plain terms: use your judgment alongside anything you read here.
Formally: Alan Arnette expressly disclaims all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Our liability is limited
If something goes wrong as a result of using this site — information that turned out to be inaccurate, a service that wasn’t what you expected, or anything else — Alan Arnette and Summit Coach cannot be held liable for any damages. This includes lost profits, lost data, or any other financial or personal losses.
Formally: Under no circumstances shall Alan Arnette or Summit Coach be liable under any theory of recovery for any special, direct, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or connected with the use or inability to use this website or its content.
You agree to hold us harmless
If your use of this site causes problems for us — legal or otherwise — you agree to cover any costs or damages that result. This includes reasonable legal fees.
Formally: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Alan Arnette, Summit Coach, and their assigns from any loss, costs, claims, damages, or liabilities arising from your use of this website or any violation of these terms.
Coaching is advice, not a guarantee
Summit Coach provides guidance, information, and coaching based on Alan’s experience. Mountaineering is inherently dangerous. Nothing Alan provides — written, verbal, or otherwise — guarantees your safety, your summit, or any particular outcome. You are responsible for your own decisions in the mountains.
We may update these terms
We can update these terms at any time by posting the revised version here. Continued use of the site means you accept whatever is current. If you have questions about anything here, reach out via the contact form.
Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect as little as possible, we don’t sell anything, and we’ll delete your data if you ask.
What we collect
When you visit the site, our web server automatically logs basic technical info: the date and time of your visit, your IP address, and which pages you viewed. We don’t do anything with this beyond routine server maintenance.
When you fill out the contact form, we collect your name, email, phone (if provided), and the information you share about your climbing goals. This is used only to respond to you and manage your coaching engagement. It is never shared with anyone, ever.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the site, you can opt in to saving your name and email in a cookie so you don’t have to retype them next time. These cookies last one year. No tracking cookies are used to follow you around the web.
Third-party links and embedded content
This site links to other websites (guide companies, gear resources, etc.). We’re not responsible for what those sites do with your data — their own privacy policies apply once you leave here.
Embedded content (videos, maps, etc.) may collect data from you as if you had visited that platform directly. This applies to services like YouTube, Google Maps, and Calendly.
Analytics
We use basic analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. We do not share this data with any outside organization.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personal information through this site.
How long we keep your data
Contact form submissions and associated data are retained indefinitely unless you ask us to delete them. If you’re an active coaching client, we keep records of our engagement for the duration of the relationship.
Your rights
You can ask us to: send you a copy of everything we have on you, or delete it entirely. Email contact@summitcoach.org with “Data Request” or “Data Deletion” in the subject line and we’ll handle it promptly.
Note: we may need to retain certain data for legal or administrative purposes even after a deletion request.
